I left my job at St John Ambulance in order to persue a career in youth work. I am now a full time student with the Centre for Youth Ministry. I am currently working towards my BA Honors degree in Youth and Community Work and Applied Theology. I commute to my lectures from London to Ridley Hall Theological College in Cambridge (left) every fortnight, while working at my placement St. Barnabas Church in london the rest of the time as a Volunteer Youth Worker. I have 17 fellow first years on the course with me and I am having quite a lot of fun. Although it is extremely hard work! The course runs for three years and then I am will be qualified. It is said to be one of the most difficult courses out there for youth work training and you also walk away with a recognised proffessional qualification, JNC level 2.
That is the main change since I last wrote on my blog...other things worthy of noting down are:
I shaved my hair down to a number one to raise money for the Nelson Mandela Childrens Fund last August (right), it was a great experience but now my hair is in this awkward growth stage and doesn't look so hot! I can't wait to have my long hair back now.
I also got to go home for Christmas (2007) for the first time since I left South Africa four years ago. It was so amazing to spend that time of year with my family.
In 2006 I spent Chritmas with Linda and her family in Norway, it was so great. Norway is so very beautiful and I recommend visiting the country to everyone.
I went to Sweden for my friend Sofia's wedding in August 2007. The story of how her and her husband Patrik got together is a jaw dropper. I let her tell it to you one day. That trip was amazing, God transformed me that long weekend. Something that I can't quite explain happened and I will always look back at that weekend with great joy forthe rest of my life.
Oh, one last thing to mention is that I moved house when I became a full time student last September. I moved out of the house with Sabina (sad times) and into the vicarage of St. Barnabas Church (St. B's). I really miss living with friends (I had some of the most amazing times living with Sabina) but I am really enjoying living in the most beautiful house I have ever lived in! The family I live with are amazing and after a little bit of uncertainty and uncomfortableness I feel like this is my home away from home now.
So this is where I am now...this time of my life...living in a vicarage, working for a church...waiting for my hair to grow and struggling with theological reflection (will explain another time)...xx
